Community Catalysts will build on local people’s strengths, supporting them to start up their own community micro-enterprises that help older and disabled people in the area.  Never more than now have people needed opportunities to generate their own income and deliver the much-needed support in our communities.  We look to help local people unleash their creativity and passion to support more people in the community – helping local people to help other local people.

We will work with local people across North Allerdale who want to develop small enterprises and ventures offering a wide range of help and support for older and disabled people at home.

As well as helping people to set up new enterprises, we can also advise small groups and organisations already established in Cumbria who may be looking to diversify or extend what they offer.

We will try hard to build on things that already work well and to value and nurture people, groups and organisations with strong local knowledge and expertise. The project aims to capture learning and actively use this to affect local system and culture change – working in partnership to improve the way that health and care works for people in Cumbria.

We know from our work with older people in Cumbria that most people would like to stay in their own home as they grow older. The service offered by Community Catalysts will help us to meet the local demand for care by supporting people who want to work in their own communities to set up their own social care enterprise. We are delighted to be working with Community Catalysts on this programme that will enable us to support more of our older people to live independently at home.

Becky Goddard has been employed as the local Catalyst to lead the project in Cumbria.

I’ve really enjoyed my first few weeks as a Community Catalyst in Cumbria. The support for the development programme has been fantastic to see and I’ve already met some amazing entrepreneurs who are keen set up their own enterprises, supporting local people right here in Cumbria.  Community Catalysts is a fantastic organisation to work for and I am very excited to be working in partnership with Cumbria County Council to help stimulate the development and growth of new enterprises that can support our local communities.
