{"id":622,"date":"2025-08-20T14:02:06","date_gmt":"2025-08-20T13:02:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.communitycatalysts.co.uk\/fgcforadults\/?page_id=622"},"modified":"2025-10-14T12:22:50","modified_gmt":"2025-10-14T11:22:50","slug":"deliberative-forum-crowndale-centre-camden-7th-september-2023","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.communitycatalysts.co.uk\/fgcforadults\/deliberative-forum-crowndale-centre-camden-7th-september-2023\/","title":{"rendered":"Deliberative Forum, Crowndale Centre Camden, 7th September 2023"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the Deliberative Forum, we invited a range of people with knowledge and experience in relation to Family and Group Conferences to check out and take forward our emerging understanding of how FGCs for adults work, and what differences they can make in people\u2019s lives.\u00a0 Most importantly, this included people with experience of having a conference, as well as co-ordinators, managers and those who may refer people to FGC services.<\/p>\n<p>During the forum, we shared<strong><em> both<\/em><\/strong>, what we thought we know from our analysis of the literature, results from a national survey and stakeholder interviews, <strong><em>and<\/em><\/strong> what we had identified as key questions where we needed to understand things better.\u00a0\u00a0 We asked participants to deliberate on these questions in small groups.\u00a0 Out of this, we will distil our current best understanding \u2013 or <strong><em>Programme Theory<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 as to how FGCs work.\u00a0 In particular we were interested in<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Describing and characterising the practice model for adults\u2019 FGCs<\/li>\n<li>What sorts of positive outcomes (for people and their networks) may be achieved through having FGCs<\/li>\n<li>How FGCs work in an adults\u2019 context and what ingredients lead to successful outcomes<\/li>\n<li>For whom FGCs may work best and in what situations \u2013 including how applicable and acceptable they may be in different cultural and social contexts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We have summarised what we think we already know and captured the collective wisdom that came out of our deliberations in the Report of our discussions \u2013 and we also have a selection of short videos as people fed back from their groups.<\/p>\n<p>We will develop and test out or initial Programme Theory for FGC for adults in the next stage of our research by tracking the experience of a sample of people and their networks across our different research sites.<\/p>\n<p>Here is the full report \u2013<a href=\"https:\/\/acrobat.adobe.com\/id\/urn:aaid:sc:eu:87f6ac4e-4265-4049-ab01-3e5f63a9ae51\">Family and Group conferences for adults \u2013 summary report of the Deliberative Forum process<\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you would like to contribute your thoughts or feedback, please email Sharanya Mahesh on <a href=\"mailto:s.n.mahesh@bham.ac.uk\">s.n.mahesh@bham.ac.uk<\/a> or join the discussion on our online forum by subscribing to Jiscmail- <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jiscmail.ac.uk\/FGC-ADULTS\">https:\/\/www.jiscmail.ac.uk\/FGC-ADULTS<\/a>.
