Kirklees – Do your thing

The Community Catalysts’ Do Your Thing Project was funded by Kirklees Council and the North Kirklees and Greater Huddersfield Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs).

The project lasted for 20 months from October 2015 to September 2017 and was led by project coordinator Mark Finch. The project had a focus on people with a learning disability and/or autism who didn’t use social care services. We supported people with a learning disability or autism to:

  • think differently about what they do with their time
  • meet other people and make a difference in their community
  • set up and run their own activity or peer support group

Our end of project report provides some great stories of people leading their own activities. The 10 top tips capture the best way to support people to enable them to make the most of what they are good at.

We are back in Kirklees leading a separate project and have met up again with a few of the people engaged in Do Your Thing. Many people are still leading their activity and even better have gone onto employment and further training!!
