Torbay Befriending Service is a new Community Interest Company set up by two friends, Wendy and Sue. We are two experienced Support, Time and Recovery workers, with over 25 years’ experience of working in the mental health sector between us
We provide a range of one-to-one befriending and mentoring services to adults with mental health issues and their carers in the local area.
Our bespoke high quality services puts people at the centre of managing their own wellbeing and has a strong focus on social inclusion. We tailor our service to each individual person, with the aim of decreasing isolation and increasing opportunities to participate in social activities. We also aim to improve people’s sense of independence, self-confidence and self-sufficiency.
In addition, we will be establishing a group befriending service within a local community setting, whereby people can share their experiences and life skills and be supported to develop and maintain strategies and coping mechanisms for dealing with the challenges in life.
WHY CHOOSE US?
We offer a service with a difference. As a small organisation focusing specifically on befriending and mentoring, we are able to offer a very personal, flexible and tailored service to each person who we work with. We passionately believe in supporting people to reach their potential in life and to have meaningful roles in the community.
OUR COMMITMENT TO PROVIDING A HIGH QUALITY SERVICE
Our befrienders will receive annual Safeguarding Adults training and are subject to enhanced DBS checks. We will strive to make continuous improvements to our services through ongoing monitoring and evaluation, the most important feedback naturally coming from our customers.
OUR VISION FOR THE FUTURE
Our vision is that the people we support will develop effective self-management skills to maintain their wellbeing in the future and that they will have active roles within the local community. We want to develop the service to recruit volunteer befrienders who have lived experience and who wish to pass on their skills and abilities.
We would love to hear from you if you are interested in finding out more.
