Relational Care – free Open University seminar

The Open University have been working on a new approach to care, called ‘relational care’, that can help to transform lives.

Relational care is based on the vital importance of creating mutual relationships and networks of support. It recognises the value of every individual and can benefit older people, carers, families, social workers, and providers.

The Open University want to hear from people whose daily lives involve giving and receiving care, to better understand what promotes or holds back vital relationships so that they can continue their work and come up with realistic recommendations for its adoption.

They are holding various online meetings for you to share your own experience on the following dates and times:

  • Thursday 14th November, 14:00 – 16:00.
  • Friday 22nd November, 10:00 – 12:00.
  • Monday 25th November, 17:00 – 19:00.

At the meetings, you will be asked to:

  • Listen to a short explanation of how ‘relational care’ works.
  • Share your own experiences and thoughts (they will be recorded, but your name will not be used in the report).
  • Talk about the issues that have come up with others who have shared experience.

If you are interested in attending, please email manik.deepak-gopinath@open.ac.uk and tell her:

  • Your name and email.
  • What your interest is (e.g. carer, social worker, care provider; older person).
  • Your first (and if possible second) choice of date.
  • Any questions you may have.

Thank you on behalf of The Open University Relational Care Team,

Dr Manik Deepak-Gopinath
