Community Enterprise Catalyst (Shropshire)

I was delighted to join Community Catalysts as the Micro-market Coordinator for Worcestershire in 2013. The role was exactly what I was looking for as the next step in the work I had been doing for many years. As the Community Business Coordinator in Telford & Wrekin for two years starting in February 2017, I was able to further develop my knowledge of and share my experience with local groups who I was supporting while seeing the potential for supporting larger numbers of local people through local community led organisations.

Currently, I am the Community Enterprise Catalyst for Shropshire with a focus on helping people at home to live a good life. It is great to see so much positive and enabling support that people can, and do, provide.

My previous experience has included volunteering for Barnardo’s providing respite care from home and working in day services for adults with learning disabilities. I was inspired by the ideals of person-centred planning and was fortunate to become one of two co-ordinators for Worcestershire. In this role I was able to develop my passion for training as well as for working with individuals and families.

I then moved into Worcestershire County Council’s Individual Budgets Pilot Team and supported individuals, families and friends to develop support plans. I became a fully accredited support broker. We supported the development of a social enterprise called time4people and I worked for them after the project had finished. I have always supported advocacy and self-advocacy and was a trustee and then chair of a local advocacy group in Kidderminster. I am a citizen’s advocate for a very dear friend who I met through this work.

My other interests include reading thrillers and murder mysteries, travelling, both abroad and in the UK and spending time with my family and friends. I really enjoy meeting new people and fortunately I get to meet many more while doing my job.
