Local Area Coordination is an evidence-based approach that was developed in Albany in Western Australia in 1988. During the 80s and 90s Local Area Coordination spread across Western Australia.

Local Area Coordination is built on the assumption that people…are not just passive recipients of social and health care, but have expertise, gifts, strengths that can help them achieve their vision for a good life, contribute to their local communities and maximise the impact of resources.
