Volunteer week – Chris Laney – Positive Change Consultancy

Micro-provider Chris Laney ran a reminiscence project for older people in Barking and Dagenham. The project helped to reduce emotional distress and isolation that some of the older women felt and helped them to create ‚Äėpositive change‚Äô in their lives.

Once the project came to an end the people involved realised that they had made new friendships and gained lots enjoyment from their involvement. They decided to continue to run the sessions themselves on a voluntary basis, bringing people together to run themed activity sessions every two weeks.

Different members of the group run a session for other members and topics depend on what members want to share and learn. Sessions have included cross stitch and a presentation about the Battle of Britain with pictures.

Currently the group are working on a collage of the 1960s commissioned by Eastbury Manor House – who host the sessions. The collage will be displayed at Eastbury Manor House and aims to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the formation of the borough of Barking and Dagenham.

The group continue to scrap book all their activities and stories and Chris continues to support them where needed.
