Volunteer week – Whithorn Arts Group

Proving that retirement is for living life to the full, David Coe, a graphic designer by profession with a passion for art decided to set up an arts group in his local community in Whithorn in Dumfries and Galloway.

David felt he had something to offer and was keen to provide an activity for older people where they might learn something new and have fun whilst helping to reduce social isolation.

Just over a year later David couldn’t have predicted how successful the group would be. It now has 27 members and it is going from strength to strength. Catering for all artistic abilities the group runs two sessions a week, helping members to develop their skills and attend events and exhibitions where they can sell some of their artwork to the public.

David volunteers his time to the group and is loving every minute of it. It was something he had always wanted to do but had never found the time due to other commitments.
