Helen is a graduate with a Masters in Applied Social Studies from Sheffield University. She has extensive experience of working in social care as a qualified social work practitioner and team manager within children’s and adult services, having started her career as a residential social worker. In the last 10 years she has worked within Local Authority contracting and commissioning teams and brings particular expertise around tenders and procurement. She is a champion of user and carer involvement in the selection of services and has worked hard to reduce the barriers that smaller providers face within the competitive process.
She has experience of working for a number of Local Authorities and has expertise and skills in working with health, social care and housing providers.
Over the last 3 years she has been involved in implementing the Government agenda for ‘Putting People First’ working as Commissioning Manager for a Local Authority Self Directed Support Team. Her responsibility for market development has included hosting a Community Catalyst micro enterprise project, supporting providers to adapt to the challenges and opportunities ahead and to reshape their service offer.
In addition, she has experience of designing and co delivering targeted training to social care staff and managers around new ways of working and redesigned business processes and has skills in public speaking and event management.
