Hello! Delighted to have the opportunity to join Community Catalysts for the micro enterprise project aimed at increasing the availability of care and support options available for people in Norfolk, while creating more opportunities for local jobs and volunteering.
I have been employed by the local authority in Norfolk for the last 15 years or so. I have worked in residential and day service settings, meeting and getting to know all kinds of people along the way. In most recent years I have been managing the Norfolk County Council Development Worker Team, one of the council’s Early Help & Prevention teams.
The team’s role mainly involves working with individuals or small numbers of people, in often quite rural areas of the county, to create community groups based around a shared interest or activity. This could be meeting for mutual support & tea, creating a men’s shed project, a dementia friendly pub lunch, making & crafting, shared love of sports, gardening, bikes – anything that encourages people to come together in a mutually supportive way. It could also mean working with existing groups to increase what they can offer to their local community. The aim is to increase community capacity and reduce social isolation – but we just call it bringing people together & helping people to do what they want…
I see the micro enterprise project as a further exciting step in that process. Looking forward to it!
