My first experience of social care was as a Personal Assistant whilst at University in 2004. I was lucky to assist Mike, an ardent Portsmouth FC fan with an infectious determination to squeeze every drop out of life.
Returning to Somerset in 2007 I lead a supported living team to deliver transitions and independent living support for adults with autism, gaining my NVQ 4. My interest in the personalisation agenda brought me to a dual role in 2009 as a Short Break Service Developer and Senior Social Work Assistant for Somerset County Council.
I have always been interested in enterprise and in 2010 set up my own micro-enterprise, albeit in catering, converting a 1971 Citroen Van into a mobile tea van, catering for weddings, events and festivals.
I started working for Community Catalysts in 2014, co-ordinating the micro-enterprise project in Somerset. This has brought together my interests in self-directed support and enterprise. I enjoy connecting with the community and helping people with good ideas to make a difference in their community. To date we have supported the start-up of over 84 community enterprises in Somerset.
