A Positive Boost for Micro-enterprises: Cardiff Increases Direct Payment Rate for 2026/27

Enterprises in Cardiff are really pleased to see Cardiff Council confirm an increased direct payment rate of £20.95 per hour for the new tax year 2026/2027 for micro enterprises providing care and/or support to people in the Cardiff area. For anyone unfamiliar, a direct payment is funding given directly to a person who has been assessed by Cardiff Council’s Social Work team and found eligible for care and/or support. This process is sometimes managed by DEWIS, and it allows people to choose who provides their care and how it is delivered, rather than relying solely on traditional services.

This increase feels like a genuine acknowledgement of the skill, dedication, and compassion that care workers bring every day. This uplift will make a real difference on the ground – helping micro enterprises stay sustainable, pay people fairly, and continue offering the kind of flexible, person‑centred support that so many individuals and families rely on. It’s an encouraging step that shows a commitment to strengthening local care and investing in the people who make it happen!
