We (Community Catalysts) held our third community event in Wantage at the Delaney’s Nightclub and Music Venue in the centre of Wantage town, yesterday on 18th June. The sun was shining (and warm), the teas and coffees were flowing, and the cakes were going down very well in this lovely setting. Many people had not been in since the team had taken it over and completely revamped the nightclub. It is light, airy, clean, fresh, modern, and stylish, with an amazing welcoming and homely atmosphere which is not an easy achievement in a nightclub. Nick, Niel, and Terry have worked and continue to work hard to connect with all of the community, and with the Thursday Freedom Nights getting steadily busier, it is a testament to their values, commitment, and flexibility towards all of their customers. They all remain focused on getting a lift put in so that it is fully accessible to everyone.
There were six organisations represented during the day, who were there to provide free information on what they are offering in the area: Carers Community VOWH who came over from Shrivenham, Community Dental Services, Community Connectors, Good Neighbours Scheme, Mumby’s Care, and Community Catalysts. It was fantastic to see so much networking and connecting of the dots, which naturally led onto our first Advisory Group Meeting.
The Advisory Group Meeting is about genuinely connecting the local opportunities for people with learning disabilities with the project and its stakeholders. This is still open to new members, and if you are in the Wantage area and have an interest in what is happening for people with learning disabilities and their carers, do get in touch to find out more on 07341 425126 or a.wingad@communitycatalysts.co.uk.
