Back into the Groove offers OTAGO Strength and Balance and Chair-based Exercise classes for Waveney residents living with Long Term Conditions and disabilities (including dementia, Parkinson’s and MS). All of our classes are run on a ‘pay-what-you-can’ and a ‘come-when-you-can’ basis, meaning that our classes don’t need to be booked in advance. Carers are very welcome and most find that they feel the benefits too.
Our classes are led by a Level 3 Exercise Referral instructor, this qualification means that we can receive referrals from NHS doctors, physiotherapists and health coaches; we are part of the Norfolk and Waveney Exercise Referral Register, but anyone can come along without being referred. We ask all participants to fill in a short health questionnaire so we are aware of any conditions or symptoms that might be affected by exercise.
Our OTAGO Strength and Balance programme is widely recommended by the NHS and has been proven to be highly effective at preventing falls. It keeps people living at home for longer, builds confidence and enables people to stay active, improving physical confidence and reducing anxiety about falling.
Our chair-based exercise classes are fun and friendly, we work on heart and lung health, mobility, coordination and upper and lower body strength. Every participant is encouraged to go at their own pace, some just come and enjoy the great music and company.
Our classes are friendly, supportive and non-competitive, we’re open to all shapes and sizes and offer adaptations for people with mobility limitations.
