Social Group for Neurodiverse Adults

Social Group for Neurodiverse Adults

Having one of my sons diagnosed with Autism and ADHD  was the reason I found out about Occupational Therapy. I was keen to enable him to be as independent as he could be and subsequently I chose this as a career which I am truly passionate about.

I qualified from London Southbank  University in 2009 with a BSc (hons) in Occupational Therapy.

Since graduating I have worked between Health and Social Care statutory services for 15 years.  My experience includes working with adults with a variety of long term conditions, individuals experiencing  mental health difficulties, adults with Autism / ADHD  and people with Learning Disabilities.

My goal has always been to enable individuals to learn or re-learn the skills necessary to be able to engage in activities that are important to them. Using my OT  therapeutic skills I can identify an individual’s difficulties, goals, and activities that support them to  build resilience, be more self-aware, self-managing and where they can feel inclusive and accepted and build their own social networks.

The aim of my social group is to to support individuals to live a life based on what’s important to them, to have fun and the opportunity to meet and build relationships with their peers within a safe environment.  My social group was set up due to many reporting  feeling social isolated and lonely which, continues to be highlighted by autistic adults (Autism strategy 2021-2026).  Currently my social groups is being offered in the Folkestone area on a monthly basis.

Since qualifying I have maintained a continuous registration with The Health and Care Professions Council. I have an enhanced DBS and I am GDPR compliant. I am a  member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapy and Royal College of OT specialist section Mental Health.
