Special Cooks Company is a small friendly community based service which has been set up to give young people and adults with a learning disability the opportunity to learn or improve their existing cookery skills, and learn about healthy eating, in a safe environment. People using the service have access to a real life cooking experience in a community kitchen working together as a team to produce a nutritious meal each week. The service is staffed by people who are experienced in working with adults with learning difficulties and who are committed to giving them as many opportunities and experiences in life as possible. The emphasis of the service is on making it personalised to the needs of the people using it. For some it maybe a way of getting out and meeting people, while for others it maybe a way of gaining valuable work experience which they could use on a CV, or learning to have a more healthier lifestyle by eating better. Whichever it is, the service is committed to tailoring the experience to meet the expectations of each person’s individual needs and goals, as well as giving the older people concerned access to a value for money, nutritious three course meal. The overall aim of the company is to give a high quality of service to each individual where each person’s wishes are listened to. We at Special Cooks Company are passionate about developing people’s confidence and helping them to learn new skills.
