Reviews of Speira Project- Creating playful lives

Having cared for a close family member with dementia, I can truly appreciate the impact the Speira Project has on the community. It provides a safe, welcoming space both for family members and for those living with dementia, where everyone can relax, connect, and share experiences in a supportive environment.

If you are looking to meet other people with similar challenges, whether from a carer perspective, as a family member, or if you are living with dementia yourself and want a place to talk openly about your condition, this is a safe and friendly space to meet and connect with others.

If you feel a little apprehensive, Myrto has a wonderful way of putting your mind at rest. I have seen first hand how, week after week, friendships develop and how people come together to share their stories.

Myrto thoughtfully creates activities that help stimulate memories, encourage creativity, and keep the mind active. These activities naturally spark conversation, and there is never any pressure to take part. Everyone is free to join in at a pace they feel comfortable with. It is a genuinely inclusive and caring space that makes a real difference.

Thank you to the community hub for always taking care of my husband! He enjoys taking part in the group activities and feels that he is a valued member of the group.

I bring my Dad, is suffering with dementia, to the Speria Project every week. My father's ability to remember people and places is shrinking and his interest in the wider world is diminishing so finding activities he enjoys is becoming increasingly difficult. We've tried a number of dementia cafes over the past few years but few hold his interest (as soon as they are over he is out the door), but with the Reminisce Cafe he is happy to stay for as long as possible. Whilst he still has difficulty remember the location or names of any people who attend, he feels very comfortable there and actually enjoys the activities and the conversations he has with Mylto in particular but with the helpers who help Mylto run the session. The fact that enjoys the session is hugely important and it helps him, people show an interest in him as a person and want to hear his opinions - he is still an important and worthy person and the cafe is the space where he can feel that. Also he particularly enjoys the feather intro and is happy to participate! On some level he recognises the place and I guess the feeling of being a part of the cafe. Mylto has created a wonderful space, where people feel safe and trust those around them and that encourages them to take part in all of the varied activities. This is a truly rare and precious space and I sincerely hope Mylto is able to keep it open for as long as possible. Life would be so dull without it.

This is the 2nd term this lovely club will be running.. The activities are amazing from making memory boxes ,musical instruments ,bird feeders ,creative crafts all serving a positive purpose to dementia.. My mother’s cognitive and language was very alert at these sessions and I saw her get really creative while enjoying the finished product of all activities .There was time to social during the session with banter ,stories, laughs and jokes with a nice cup of tea . Myrto really works well with people living dementia .showing kindness. compassion while listening to their needs.. For me what did I get out of it …………. We’ll come to the club and find out for your self .
