Tackle The Stress is all about improving emotional wellbeing by spending time fishing with me.

My clinical experience includes working with people of all ages who may have one or more of the following:
Learning disabilities
Challenging behaviour, from unpredictable and impulsive with limited concentration, across the spectrum to individuals with violent and forensic histories
Physical disabilities
Autism
Personality disorders
Anxiety
Depression
Dementia
Impaired communication
Sensory needs
I devised and ran an outdoor pursuits project (POP) that used fishing and other outdoor pursuits to provide a safe way for people to engage with healthcare staff when traditional referrals had not been effective (difficult to engage), not suitable for standard talking therapies, encouragement away from screens. It also created a safe and real range of situations that lent themselves to assessments.
Whilst fishing is the primary activity during which side-by-side conversations can take place over a few hours, other activities such as outdoor cooking, green woodworking , mindful activities such as forest bathing, barefoot walks etc. or team-building type activities that can promote independence, boost confidence and self-esteem, help to broaden a person’s sense of self and identity.
Initial sessions are 1:1 with possible group sessions after assessment of group dynamics.
I take a collaborative approach, working together, involving people in risk assessments, planning and developing new ideas so they are invested in what we are doing for their own wellbeing and that of others.

Areas: Central and East and North Dorset. West Hampshire. New Forest.
