The words ‘Day Centre’ can bring up images of older people, sitting in a drab room, not talking. That is exactly what we do everything in our power not to do.

My name is Sarah, by profession I am an Occupational Therapist, which is all about seeing the person (with dementia and the carer), with their own thoughts and life experiences.

I hope you can see from our photos that we are in a bright, fun and welcoming room. Each person is very different as to what they want out of coming to our centre. It could be :-

• Mental stimulation through games and activities which are subtly changed to everyone’s needs. We saw through COVID when people were isolated, how using your brain can help to maintain skills.

Whether that is talking to different people, puzzles, games, quizzes, looking at/discussing objects, pictures, books from 1950s – 1970s, music and much more.

• Being with other people who want to know your opinions and experiences
• Sit and watch without the pressure of having to join in
• Laughter, the greatest healer!

• Hawkhurst House, Cranbook Road, Hawkurst, Kent, TN18 5EF
• We use the community room in Hawkhurst House and have a separate entrance off Heartenoak Road.

When                       

• Tuesday and Thursday 9.30am – 3.30pm
• Wednesday 9.30am – 3pm

What we offer :      

• Two course hot lunch, lots of tea/coffee and biscuits!
• Activities and Outside Entertainment (singers, ukulele band, visit from Cranbrook museum, photographic presentations and more). For a better  idea of what we get up to, please  see our monthly newsletter on our website   http://hawkhurstlof.co.uk (found at the bottom of our home page).
• Carers group once a month. A relaxed chat over tea and biscuits for carers to speak to one another about the challenges of caring for someone with dementia. Also, I bring in speakers from local charities or organisations like The Stroke Association to give presentations.

What will happen if I enquire about WRAP?

1. I will give you a call to discuss how we can help, give any advice or onward referrals to people who can help with any practical issues you are having.
2. Invite you and your loved one in for a short visit to see WRAP, chat to get practical information and just as importantly, all about your loved ones life, so we can make them feel as welcome as possible if they decide to come along.
3. Person with dementia comes for a free trial morning to see how they like it.
4. Go from there!
