Supporting a healthier and happier later life – Act Now Age Better

With more people living longer, Age UK Gloucestershire believes that this is something to be celebrated. However, the word ‘ageing’ still too often brings to mind images of frailty, walking sticks, or worn-out armchairs. While getting older can come with challenges, these stereotypes risk creating the impression that decline is inevitable, and can prevent people from preparing well for later life.

Age UK Gloucestershire’s Act Now Age Better campaign begins with a focus on staying active. Taking small, manageable steps in one’s 50s and early 60s can lead to major benefits in the years ahead. Whether it’s through structured activities like gym sessions or team sports, or simply building more movement into daily routines, every bit of activity contributes to better health and wellbeing.

Movement is a powerful tool for maintaining strength and independence. To support this, Age UK Gloucestershire has produced a practical leaflet filled with simple ways to add more movement into everyday life. It also features expert advice and encouragement from GP and health coach Dr. Hussain Al-Zubaidi.

Age UK Gloucestershire is encouraging everyone to rethink ageing and see it not as a time of decline, but as an opportunity to stay active, strong, and engaged with life.
