The Curious Project aims to combat loneliness and isolation by bringing people together through music and the creative arts. We want to encourage friendships and an engagement in the thriving art scene in Birmingham.
We like to help people learn and use new skills, like storytelling, poetry, song-writing and art. We have several programmes, all of which start with music. They are:
Singing Theory – teaching music theory in a fun and engaging way, through popular music that the participants know/request.
Creative Minds – using music as a starting point to access ideas about creativity, imagination and engaging with the wider arts. The programme explores music, storytelling, poetry and art, but can also include other disciplines such as film (and filmmaking), drama etc.
Song Stories – normally aimed at older participants/care homes. Explores memories using music suggested by participants/families that is relevant to their life, in a way similar to Desert Island Discs.
Songwriting theory – allows participants to write songs to make sense of complicated feelings in their life.
Outcomes include a pop-up art exhibition; books (or audio files) compiled of life stories of the group/individual; chance to record a chosen song at a recording studio; chance to write and ‘release’ original song; concerts/live music events.
If there are parts of multiple programmes that sound interesting, there is the potential to combine programmes into a uniquely-curated programme, this can be discussed in a consultation with Henry.
All of our programmes are completely accessible, and can be adapted based on the specific needs of the group.
