Zoe Miller

National Project Support Officer

Having worked in a variety of support services, initially in homelessness then with adults with learning disabilities, I moved into the social housing sector as I saw the need for quality, affordable homes in thriving communities.

I went on to specialise in debt and benefits advice where I loved seeing my clients empowered through advice and advocacy, helping them to gain control of their lives by navigating the complex world of welfare benefits and appeals.

In these roles I found I was encountering individuals who seemed ‘stuck’ and disconnected from their communities. Loneliness and isolation seemed commonplace for clients who were long-term unemployed, or with additional needs that weren’t being met.

This led me to pick up a part-time MA in Social Innovation as a way to explore creative approaches to social issues and the role of enterprise in unlocking resources and creating new networks for social change.

I’m really pleased to have joined Community Catalysts in Birmingham to expand provision for adults with support needs. The project is about supporting local people to form micro-enterprises which is a fantastic way for communities to meet their own needs. I hope our work will bring more choice so that everyone can access meaningful, enjoyable day provision in the city.

Outside of work, I enjoy running, walking and discovering new places so you will probably find me anywhere outdoors (especially if the sun is shining!)
