On Friday 9 May, Josh MacAlister MP met with Becky Goddard, our Community Enterprise Catalyst in Allerdale, to hear about our community micro-enterprise development project in partnership with Cumberland Council. They were joined by Alex Corbett who runs Canny Care, and Rachel who is supported by the service.
We were delighted to share our work to support local people in the community to set up their own small businesses, supporting other local people to live well.
We shared how the project:
- Supports people have more choice and control over the type of care and support they would like
- Promotes the use of direct payments so people can get the care and support they choose
- Keeps money in the local economy and creates jobs
- Results in highly personalised care and support which is relational, flexible and can be tailored to suit the person’s needs
Josh commented:
“Community Catalysts Allerdale do absolutely fantastic work supporting people to set up as self employed to provide support and care for older and disabled people in our community. We’ve got a real shortage of care workers so initiatives like this to get more people into the profession are exactly what we need.”
We sincerely thank Josh MacAlister MP for meeting with us and look forward to developing the connections.
