Islington

Partnership project with Islington Council to develop great day support options for people with learning disabilities.

As in many places across the country, Covid has made it difficult for larger day services to stay open. Many have closed and are helping people in different ways.

Pre-Covid, Islington Council consulted with people with a learning disability and their families about how they would like to be supported during the day and these conversations are continuing. People sometimes find it difficult to imagine what is available in the community now, what alternatives are possible and what could be developed in the future. Community Catalysts is working with people, families and a range of stakeholders to build on the great things already in place, and is helping to develop additional options which will make the most of people’s individual assets and the assets in their community.

As part of the project, we have developed a directory to showcase community enterprises who are offering support and different options in the local area.

Community Catalysts is currently carrying out a scoping and diagnostic piece of work to support the Adult Social Care Transformation Programme in Islington. The aim is to develop a range of options that will increase activities, employment opportunities and levels of contact within the community…I have found the work of Community Catalysts to be of a very high standard, with a good level of research, analysis, and the ability to engage a broad range of stakeholders in a very positive and empowering way.
