Creative ways to help older people stay well and connected

Good care and support is not all about personal care at home. Leanne runs Visualise Fitness which is helping people stay strong, active and connected as they age.

Creativity is at the heart of a lot of community micro-enterprises. While care at home is an important part of community micro-enterprise support, these small businesses also offer alternative activities that help people to live a good life.

Wiltshire is one such county where people are thinking differently about care and setting up micro-enterprises that support people in different ways.

Leanne was running a fitness business as a sole trader and gained a qualification in Exercise for Older Adults. Wanting to do more to support the older community, she contacted Community Catalysts to get support with developing her enterprise, Visualise Fitness.

Through the development programme, Leanne was supported to strengthen the practical aspects of her offer, including; evidence of insurance, DBS checks, relevant policies, risk assessment, contracts and training. This helped her present Visualise Fitness as a safe, credible and well-prepared community enterprise for older adults.

“It has been a privilege to support Leanne through the development programme and to see how her work is helping older adults build strength, mobility and confidence. Her offer is a strong example of how community micro-enterprises can broaden the local care and support offer in Wiltshire, helping people focus not only on what they need, but also on what helps them live well.”
